These are the faces of women who have had multiple failed treatments and outright negligence at the hands of ob-gyn’s who didn’t have the right training and tools to treat us. The roots of the reasons for this are many – clinical gender bias, pharmaceutical influence, and most of all a medical professional society that prioritizes its members over the patients they serve. That society is the American College of Ob-gyn’s (ACOG), who have steadfastly refused to bring their diagnosis and treatment guidelines up to date with clinical and evidence-based research and information about how to treat endometriosis. For years they have espoused a draconian approach to the millions of women who have this disease’s health. It’s time for that to change.
This Friday and Saturday join in with thousands of other people protesting online and in person at ACOG headquarters to demand new treatment guidelines and patient participation in those guidelines. Helmed by the fierce patient advocates Casey Berna and Shannon Cohn, do follow their lead, you can make a difference with one click or tweet.
What you can do:
- Post on the ACOG Facebook page: Copy/paste: Update your endometriosis treatment standards with clinical evidence and patient input. #wematterACOG
- Tweet to ACOG
- Sign the petition
- Email ACOG executives directly and let them know what you think
Use the hashtag #wematterACOG on Twitter and Facebook and tell your story of treatment failures and negligence on your body at the hands of your doctors. Be brutal and honest. The time is now.
